A 52-year-old headmaster was on Monday arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO)Act for allegedly molesting a 11-year-old girl after taking her to an isolated area near Kumbala in Kasaragod, Kerala, on Sunday night.

The accused, Sudhir, a member of the Kerala School Teachers Association (KSTA), was taken into custody by the Kumbala police after the girl disclosed the incident to her mother.

According to the police, Sudhir attended a housewarming ceremony in the area and later took the girl, his former student, to a nearby isolated area under the pretext of accompanying an unwell person from the function. The incident occurred around 9 pm.

When the child did not return for a long time, her parents began searching for her. The girl later revealed the ordeal to her mother, following which a complaint was lodged with the police.

Sudhir was arrested on Monday afternoon after being questioned and subjected to a medical examination.

The child also underwent a medical check-up.

The police said the accused would be produced before the court later in the day.
