The Trinamool Congress leadership has dubbed health camps set up by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram, as a replication of the Sebashray model launched by party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Mr. Adhikari has set up camps at Sonachura in Nandigram to extend medical facilities to his constituency, a move which was ridiculed by the West Bengal ruling party.

In a social media post, the Trinamool Congress said that when Mr. Banerjee launched Sebashray to serve the people of his constituency, Mr. Adhikari mocked it.

“Now, when the people of Nandigram want Sebashray, the same Suvendu (Adhikari) is busy replicating what he once ridiculed. Imitation may be flattering, but in politics it simply reveals an intellectual bankruptcy — and the public won’t be fooled,” the Trinamool Congress posted on social media.

Several leaders of the Trinamool Congress joined the chorus.

“The BJP has made it a habit: mock first, copy later. Every time the Trinamool Congress Government launches a pro-people initiative, @BJP4India rushes to attack, ridicule, and obstruct it — only to shamelessly imitate it later. From Lakshmir Bhandar to Duare Sarkar — nothing has escaped their hypocrisy,” the party wrote on social media.

Earlier in January 2025, the Trinamool Congress general secretary launched the Sebashray, an initiative under which hundreds of free medical camps were set up across his constituency — Diamond Harbour. These camps witnessed large participation from locals and went on for several weeks.

Row over presence of NCW member in Suvendu’s medical camp

Meanwhile, another controversy has erupted over the presence of National Commission for Women member Archana Majumdar at the camp organised by Mr. Adhikari. Dr Majumdar is a physician and was seen at the camp offering medical advice to patients.

“The presence of NCW member Archana Majumdar, who never misses a chance to criticise the state government and works in collusion with BJP, raises eyebrows. Why would a NCW member be at the camp of a BJP leader?” Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh wondered.

Dr. Majumdar has close ties with the BJP and in the past contested West Bengal Assembly polls in on a BJP ticket.

“I came here as a practising physician. The TMC and Kunal Ghosh are doing cheap politics over a humanitarian initiative to help the ordinary people,” Dr. Majumdar said, responding to the criticism.
