Thirty-five fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday (November 3, 2025) for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

According to sources, the arrested fishermen were on board three mechanised boats—two carrying 10 persons each and one with 11 persons. Of the total, 31 hail from Nagapattinam district and had ventured into the sea. The remaining four fishermen were from Ramanathapuram district.

As per initial reports, the boats and fishing gear were seized, and the detained fishermen were taken to the Kankesanthurai port and expected to be produced before a local court after reaching the shore.
