A couple were killed and several vehicles and a police outpost were damaged when a speeding ambulance rammed into their two-wheeler near Double Road in Wilson Garden traffic police station limits on Saturday (November 1, 2025) morning. Several two wheelers and a police outpost were also damaged.

The deceased have been identified as Ismail, 40 and Sameena Banu, 33. The couple was travelling on a scooter when an ambulance coming at high speed from the Richmond Circle side crashed into them from behind, said the police.

The signal was red, and the couple had stopped their bike when the ambulance, allegedly driven recklessly, failed to slow down and hit them. The impact was so severe that both were crushed under the ambulance and died on the spot.

The ambulance, which reportedly belonged to a private hospital, did not have any patient on board at the time of the accident. Despite this, the driver is said to have been speeding with the siren on.

After hitting the couple, the ambulance collided with three other bikes and dragged one of them for nearly 50 meters before coming to a halt after crashing into a police outpost. The injured were identified as Riyan and Siddiq.

The incident triggered public outrage at the spot, with angry locals overturning the ambulance in protest to pull out the vehicles and victims crushed under the vehicle. They alleged that this was the second such incident involving an ambulance in the area and accused drivers of misusing sirens and driving recklessly even when not carrying patients.

The Ashoknagar police have taken up a case of death due to negligence, rash and negligent driving against the driver, who was detained, for further investigation into the role of the ambulance driver and the hospital management.
