VCK leader and MP D. Ravikumar on Saturday reiterated party’s demand for reorganisation of States before holding the delimitation exercise in the country.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the party on “land and language in Dr. Ambedkar’s perspective” at Ulundurpet, he said the reorganisation of States into small units was necessary for the fair conduct of delimitation exercise.

The reorganisation was more warranted in bigger States like Uttar Pradesh. The U.P. government, under BSP leader Mayawati, had recommended the reorganisation of the State while in power.

The State accounted for 16.5% of the country’s population as per 2011 census. The population of that State was expected to grow substantially in the coming years. By 2050, Uttar Pradesh would account for 25% of the country’s population, he said.

“In such a scenario, the number of Lok Sabha seats will go up after delimitation. A situation will emerge where the party which wins maximum number of seats in U.P. will be able to rule the country itself,” the Villupuram MP said.
