Uproar over woman giving birth on muddy ground in Mirzapur

A video that went viral, in which a woman from Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh, groaning in labour pain, is seen left on the road by ambulance workers, forcing her to give birth on the muddy ground within a government health centre premises, went viral on Wednesday (October 29, 2025), leading to an uproar. The video and images were a shame for humanity, the Congress party said, criticising healthcare services in Uttar Pradesh, and terming the State’s claims of world-class healthcare services an eyewash.

“These videos are shame for humanity, where a pregnant woman in labour pain was dropped on the road by ambulance workers, and they left her writhing in pain. This is the shameful reality of health services in U.P. The government claims the healthcare services are world-class but the reality is for everyone to see. This is beyond words,” Anil Yadav, a senior U.P. Congress leader, said.

Social media users also criticised the alleged incident. “Is this the U.P. model. Where there is no health system, no guarantee of security, a kind of anarchy and inhumanity,” Vimlesh Pratap, a netizen, said on social media platform X.
