A state-of-the-art fuel station, the first of its kind in Telangana, will soon come up in Nalgonda town. The station, to be set up by Zilla Mahila Samakhya (ZMS) in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) on 1.2 acres of land, will also house a supermarket, coffee shop, electric vehicle charging station, and other facilities.

The foundation stone will be laid on September 13, according to the officials of the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), Telangana. While the initial project cost is estimated at ₹1.35 crore, the ZMS contribution will be limited to the land allotted by the State government.

The initiative is part of SERP’s efforts to support Self-Help Group (SHG) members in becoming entrepreneurs under the Congress government’s flagship programme, Indira Mahila Shakti (IMS). The station will provide employment to at least six women directly, while the supermarket and other facilities will create additional opportunities as and when they are ready for SHG members. “We are planning to set up such fuel stations in association with oil companies across all districts in a phased manner under the IMS with two already running,” SERP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Divya Devarajan told The Hindu.

Work completion in three months after laying foundation stone

The works are expected to be completed within three months of the foundation being laid. “Though two fuel stations have already been set up in Narayanpet and Sangareddy, the land allocated there was less than 12 guntas, whereas the government has allotted 1.2 acres in a prime location on the Nagarjuna Sagar Road in Nalgonda. It is close to the Government Medical College and Young India Integrated Residential School. Given the location, we expect the station to be profitable,” an official said.

The IOCL will pay ₹40,000 per month to ZMS as rent for 20 years, with a 10% annual increase. “ZMS will earn around ₹5.40 lakh monthly income from lease rent and sales commission excluding the maintenance. The supermarket, coffee shop, and charging station will be developed in a phased manner,” the officer noted.

It may be noted that Telangana’s first petrol pump set up by ZMS in Narayanpet has already proven successful, generating ₹15.5 lakh profit within six months of its operations.
