Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd (TNGECL) has received regulatory nod for slew of renewable energy projects.

In its petition before the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC), TNGECL sought approval to float tender for selection of developers through tariff based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) with e-reverse auction for procurement of 1500 megawatt hour (375 MW x 4 hours with 1.5 full-charges – discharge cycles per day) of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

The successful bidders would establish the projects in seven sub-stations of Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Ltd (Tantransco). This includes 230/110 kV substations at Palladam, Pudukottai, Thatchankurichi, V Thiruvarur and 400/230/110 kV substations at  Karamadai, Thappagundu and  Anaikadavu.

The projects would be developed under the State Component of the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme of the Union Ministry of Power on the “Build-Own-Operate” (BOO) model for a period of 15 years.

TNERC authorised TNGECL to proceed with the selection of developers, while directing the State utility to include details like experience of bidders among others. The TNGECL and Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (TNPDCL) would approach the Commission for tariff adoption through a separate petition after finalising the tender, it said.

In another petition, TNGECL had sought nod for floating tender for selection of developer  through tariff based competitive bidding process with e-reverse action for a setting up a cumulative 30MW Grid-Connected Solar photovoltaic power Project with 30MW/ 90 megawatt hour battery energy storage system (Single cycle 3 hours discharge) under build-Own-Operate (BOO) model for a period of 25 years in Karur and Thiruvarur districts.

Tenders would be called for two blocks for 15 MW/45 MWh capacity at each location instead of a cumulative 30 MW, TNERC said, besides setting other conditions like inclusion of bidder experience.

The TNERC also gave approval for another petition jointly fied by TNPDCL and TNGECL to develop a 34.75 MW hybrid renewable energy project, comprising 18.75 MW of wind and 16 MW of solar capacity in wind farm sites at Kayathar-I and II, Puliankulam and Muppandal villages.
