Belagavi Police arrested a police constable, who is under suspension, on the charge of killing his estranged wife.

The accused, Santosh Kamble, attacked 35-year-old Kashavva Karikatti, a NWKRTC conductor, at her house in Saundatti. He left her to die and locked the house.

He was a police constable in Nippani. But he was under suspension, Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S. Guled told reporters in Belagavi on Tuesday.

The victim’s colleagues who found out that she was absent for duties, alerted the police. The offence was reported last week.

Earlier, when Kashavva was posted in Saundatti, Santosh got into a bus in which she was serving and created a ruckus.

He tried to attack her when she was on duty. A case of attempt to murder was registered and he was suspended.

He was facing a departmental inquiry.

The couple divorced a few months ago. They were married for 12 years. And, they have a 10-year-old son. They were fighting over their son’s custody.
