Tamil Nadu CM Stalin participates in Police Commemoration Day

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on Tuesday (October 21, 2025), participated in the ‘Police Commemoration Day’ observed at the State police headquarters and paid tributes to the police personnel who had laid down their lives in the line of duty. This is the first time the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has participated in the Police Commemoration Day event.

Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 to commemorate the sacrifices of 10 CRPF(Central Reserve Police Force) who were killed in a sudden attack by Chinese troops in the Ladakh region in 1959 and to the police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Chief Minister Mr. Stalin, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dheeraj Kumar, Director General of Police and Head of Police Force (in-charge) G. Venkataraman, Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun and other serving and retired officers paid tributes at the police memorial located in the premises of the Director General of Police, Chennai by placing wreaths.

Distribution of benefits

The Chief Minister handed over appointment orders to 20 dependents on compassionate grounds as part of such appointments to 175 family personnel who died while in service.

Further, cheques for ₹1 crore each were handed over to individual insurance benefits under the Tamil Nadu Government’s Comprehensive Salary Package Scheme to the families of Tiruppur district special sub-inspector M. Shanmugavel and Krishnagiri district head constable S. Jesmin Milton Raj, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Besides, cheques for ₹20 lakh each were handed over as ex-gratia (compassionate) payments to the families of Virudhunagar district special sub-inspector P. Vivek Kumar and Krishnagiri district head constable S. Jesmin Milton Raj, who died while on duty.

The Chief Minister also handed over cheques amounting to a total of ₹5.70 crore as individual accident insurance benefits and ex-gratia payments to the families of six personnel.
