The Shivamogga district unit of the BJP staged a protest at Ashoka Circle in Shivamogga city on Wednesday, alleging that the Congress government in Karnataka ignored development and failed to fill up potholes.

Party workers, under the leadership of S.N. Channabasappa, BJP MLA, formed a human chain, thereby disrupting traffic for more than half an hour at the heart of the city. As a result, the movement of vehicles was badly hit on other roads of the city as well.

Protesters raised slogans targeting the Congress government and alleged that the people in power had been engaging in corruption, ignoring development works.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Channabasappa said that the State government could not fill up potholes across the State as it failed to manage finances. The government was running short of money for development works, he claimed. Mr. Channabasappa also alleged that the Congress government obstructed the celebrations of the Ganesha festival.

Motorists who were affected due to the traffic congestion confronted the protesters and suggested them to choose a different place to stage the protest, where the public would not be affected.
