Jai Hind TV senior news editor Mathew C.R. died here on Tuesday. He was 53.

The end came at a private hospital following cardiac arrest.

The funeral will be held at St. Peter’s Church, Pattoor, at 11 a.m. on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the body will be kept at the Jai Hind TV office from 1.30 p.m. for colleagues to pay their last respects. It will then be taken to the Press Club and later to his residence.

Mr. Mathew earlier worked in ACV, Surya TV news, and Veekshanam.

Condolence

Recalling his association with the journalist, Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan said he first met Mr. Mathew when he was a Kerala Students’ Union leader at Mar Ivanios College. He was ready to ask questions of anyone. By the time Mr. Satheesan became an MLA, Mr. Mathew had started working as a journalist. Even then, he would regularly drop in at the MLA Hostel in the evenings.

When Mr. Satheesan became Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Mathew would continue to meet him. “Recently, when he was under treatment following a motorbike accident, I spoke to him over the phone. Later, I spoke to him to ask about his mother’s health,” Mr. Satheesan said in a condolence message.

He recalled that Mr. Mathew shared a warm bond with him, similar to that with a family member.
