AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Wednesday sought more time for farmers to take insurance cover for paddy and other crops.

Pointing out that the current deadline would expire on November 15, Mr. Dhinakaran said many farmers were struggling to complete the enumeration process for the insurance cover, as they were affected by a number of factors including heavy rainfall in the Cauvery delta in recent weeks.

Besides, as officials in villages were preoccupied with the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, they were not able to quickly issue certain land documents –adangal– required by the farmers for the enumeration.

Keeping these factors in mind, the Central and State governments should see to it that the period for enrolment is extended till November 30, he said.
