By 9 p.m. on October 11, more than 1.2 lakh people had visited the temple and received ‘darshana’ of the deity on the day. By 11 p.m., the number of devotees on the general queue had swelled further.
Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, who is also minister in-charge of Hassan district, released a video statement assuring the devotees that everyone would get darshana. “We have put up serpentine barricades for about 5.5 km. Hundreds of people are standing in queues beyond the barricades. A record number of people are in queue, beyond our expectations. Considering the long lines, the administration has decided to allow ‘darshana’ from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.,” he said.
The number of devotees came down by Sunday morning and queues thinned out. The temple remains open for devotees till October 22 and the doors will be closed next day, October 23.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to visit the temple on October 15. The district administration has announced specific period for the VIPs and pass-holders to visit the temple, to ensure the common devotees are not disturbed.
